Serbian Diaspora Minister Srdjan Sreckovic has said that it is “clear to everyone” that Serbia cannot and will not abolish its institutions in northern Kosovo. He has assessed that Serbia is protecting its own “fundamental state and national interests” the same way any EU member state would. Minister: Serbia won’t abolish institutions in N. Kosovo “It is clear to everyone that Serbia cannot and will not abolish its institutions in Kosovo and Metohija and that we will stand by our people, but nobody ever told us ‘Kosovo or the EU’,” Sreckovic told Novi Sad-based daily Dnevnik. “For me the key thing is that the state of Serbia provides mechanisms and instruments to allow a sustainable survival of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, because efforts to protect something that is Serbia’s territorial integrity will be pointless if there are no more Serbs left in Kosovo,” he was quoted as saying. The minister assessed that it had become clear after German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to Belgrade that Serbia’s EU candidacy would not be questioned if Serbia completed the technical part of the agreement.
