Poland is also planning on launching a debate on “values based on teachings of Pope John Paul II”. There are deep differences regarding all the issues within the EU and Poland does not expect them to be smoothed thanks to its EU presidency, but it certainly has the capacity to help solve them. According to the Lisbon Treaty, the rotating presidency is mainly ceremonial and the presiding country is primarily in charge of creating a framework for European agenda and presiding over EU Council of Ministers meetings. On the other hand, former Polish Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek is a European Parliament president and a very important financial planning and budget sector is run by Polish European Commission member Janusz Lewandowski.
