Serbian President Boris Tadic has said that it will not be possible for the Democratic Party (DS) and the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) to form a coalition. Tadic said that there were certain rumors in the public that “a great coalition” was being prepared in Serbia, but he pointed out that this was not a matter of consideration. Coalition between DS, SNS “impossible” “There is no possibility for a great coalition to be formed by the SNS and DS, because these parties have different programs and orientations,” the DS leader pointed out. He also noted that he would like to set right the wrong impression in the public that the government and the opposition were not on speaking terms. “We do communicate and I will continue to do so because it is my duty as the president of Serbia,” Tadic said and added that this was a way to create a different climate on the local political scene. He said that his meeting with SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic, which took place on Thursday afternoon, had passed in a positive atmosphere. He added that he had been discussing various topics with representatives of the opposition for quite some time now. “A democratic dialogue (between us) exists,” the president said. Tadic pointed out that everyone had the right to an opinion but that they should express it in a peaceful and civilized way. “This is a democratic procedure and it implies a dialogue and elections. It is a way for the country to earn credibility in the world,” he concluded. Boris Tadic (Beta)
