Health minister resigns for "personal reasons"

Serbian Health Minister Tomica Milosavljevic has resigned, saying the decision came "for deeply personal reasons". Reporters who attended his news conference in Belgrade today were not allowed to ask any questions. Health minister resigns for "personal reasons" Milosavljevic stated that he had informed Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic about his resignation. "This was not a hasty decision, and I had already informed G17 Plus leader Mladjan Dinkic about it at the beginning of the week," he stressed. Cvetkovic respects Milosavljevic's decision and said that they had worked well together, the prime minister's office told Tanjug. According to the law, Cvetkovic must nominate a new minister to the parliament 15 days after the outgoing minister's term ends. Milosavljevic was appointed health minister in 2002 in Zoran Djindjic's government, and he took his fourth ministerial oath after the elections in 2008. His decision to undergo surgery in Germany last year was much criticized by the public as a demonstration of his mistrust in the national health care system.
