Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic says that the average income in Serbia is just above EUR 300. He added that, on the other hand, government representatives in public enterprises had enormous salaries. SNS: Citizens struggling, government arrogant “The SNS is asking the government to call the elections, because people cannot take oppression, robbery and poverty anymore,” he said. Vucic told a press conference that Serbia had reached a record high unemployment rate of 1,500,000 and that EUR 12bn had been spent on education of people who were now jobless. “Aside from unemployment, we also hold a record for the lowest wages in the region and the average income is now EUR 319,” he pointed out. In order to illustrate the government’s arrogance, the SNS deputy leader presented the information about the managers’ salaries in the public enterprises. “The average salary in public enterprises is EUR 2,340. For example, salary of the Srbijagas director (of the Serbian Socialist Party, SPS) is EUR 3,340 and together with incomes from affiliated companies he has a total of EUR 10,000, while the director of the air traffic control (of the Democratic Party, DS) earns EUR 4,270,” he stressed. Vucic also said that the salary of the Jat Airways director, a member of the DS, was EUR 4,030, while the salary of the director of the Privatization Agency, who was a G17 plus official, was EUR 3,660. The SNS deputy leader once again invited the citizens to come to the rally on February 5 and promised that it would be a peaceful and dignified gathering. He pointed out that the Progressives supported revoking of the blank resignation letters but that it was not clear to him how the ruling coalition intended to carry out the initiative. Vucic said he did not understand limitations that the representatives of the ruling coalition mentioned in their proposal for revoking of blank resignation letters. “MPs have the right to have the mandate at their disposal, but they cannot do this or that, I don’t understand how come, so I would like someone to explain it to me,” he concluded.
