Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić stated that Serbia is facing painstaking work, but that he believed the EC would review Serbia’s candidacy in the spring.

Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic stated that Serbia is facing painstaking work, but that he believed the EC would review Serbia’s candidacy in the spring. Djelic, who is in charge of EU integrations in the current Serbian cabinet, told B92 after returning from Stockholm that Serbia was starting a new era and a new stage of the European integrations by submitting its application for candidacy in the EU. Deputy PM: Hard work lies ahead But he noted that one of the conditions for receiving a candidate status was cooperation with the Hague Tribunal. "We always question whether there are some hidden intentions, hidden agendas or conditions that have not been announced yet. No, there are no other conditions except full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal,“ Djelic said. "This will also be the condition for the ratification of the full association agreement [SAA] and for receiving the candidate status. If we continue with full cooperation, carry out all the reforms that are ahead of us and all that the EC expects from a member country, we could get the candidate status by the end of 2010,“ said he. Djelic also stated that it was "a good thing that Spain was taking over EU presidency from Sweden because Spain too is supporting Serbia on its road toward the EU".
