The Kosovo Police Service (KPS) stopped Deputy Minister for Kosovo Bojan Andjelkovic from crossing the main bridge over the Ibar River in K.Mitrovica today. Andjelkovic was on his way to Pec to visit returnee villages. Official refused passage across Ibar According to KPS spokesman Besim Hoti, the deputy minister was turned away on the orders of the Kosovo Albanian government, as the visit had not been officially authorized. Andjelkovic, who was accompanied by three people in his jeep, was turned back on the bridge itself. Kosovska Mitrovica is the town in the north of the province divided into its northern, predominantly Serb, and southern, Albanian parts. Andjelkovic told journalists that notification of the visits to Istok and Ljug had been submitted 72 hours in advance. “After about 20 minutes of hanging around I was told that there was a problem and that I couldn’t go any further,“ he said, adding that he had received no reply to his insistence on an explanation, and that he had been told to turn back instead. “This incident is political and regardless of the outcome of today’s visit, I promise that I’ll visit the returnee villages in Metohija with or without notification,“ the deputy minister said. Andjelkovic explained that the purpose of his visit had been to offer support to the process of registering returnees to the province. The deputy minister was being accompanied by Borivoje Tajic, head of the returns and humanitarian assistance department, and his adviser Darko Vasic. Andjelkovic urged all Serbs wishing to return to Kosovo not to be deterred by the Kosovo authorities' obstructive tactics.
