The opposition DSS cannot support the government's package of measures to counter the economic crisis, this party's officials say. The measures are insufficient and were introduced too late, Deputy Speaker in Serbia's parliament, Radojko Obradovic, DSS, said Monday. Opposition on govt. measures: Too little, too late "We cannot back these measures, because they are selective, they were adopted without planning and projections and we are certain that they will not have any result," Obradovic told reporters. He added that the adoption of the government's economic measures begins today, but that, apart from partial assessments, no one has heard exactly what these measures aim to achieve. Obradovic stated that those applied so far have failed to give any result, mentioning the exchange rate of the domestic currency dinar (RSD) which, "despite promises that it would remain stable, is continuing to drop in value". "Serbia needs the reform of its public finances and the public sector, because partial measures to dismiss some state secretaries, are not measures that can help Serbia," Obradovic set out. Another opposition party, the Serb Radicals (SRS) said today that the Italian Fiat and Delta Holding would gain the most from subsidized loans for purchase of Zastava's version of Fiat's Puntos, since the former would produce the parts, and the latter sell the cars. According to a statement by party, the Kragujevac factory would only assemble the vehicles, whose parts would be finished in and imported from Italy, while the state-owned factory would no longer sell the cars – instead, this job would go to privately owned Delta. The Radicals believe the government’s “anti-crisis program” would help foreign firms, foreign banks in Serbian territory, and Delta's monopoly at Serbia's budget expense.
