Electricity in the village of Priluzje in Kosovo was turned on yesterday afternoon, after Serbs held a protest march to the power plant Kosovo B in Obilic. The power was restored after the protest, and village representatives said, in agreement with Kosovo institutions, that a proposed agreement with Kosovo Electric Corporation would be drawn up this week. The company insists on back payment for electricity. Electricity restored after Serb protest Electricity was cut off to the residents of Priluzje and Plemetina on Feb. 20. More than 600 households and 3,500 people in Priluzje were without electricity, and about 200 Serb families in Plemetina. The protest, monitored by Kosovo police, KPS, was conducted peacefully and its organizers emphasized that the electricity shortage in winter, with very low temperatures, denied basic living conditions to Serbs in these two villages and endangered their survival in the area. Representatives of the two villages said earlier on Sunday that the Kosovo power company representatives did not want to discuss anything except signing an agreement for electric payment, and did not even want to consider suggestions by the villagers. Head of the Vucitrn District Zoran Rakic said that electricity should be paid for, but that the 7,000 Serb workers, who worked for Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) until 1999, must first be reinstated to their jobs.
