The monetary policy will remain restrictive in the coming period, National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Radovan Jelasic says. He also told reporters in Belgrade on Friday that the January inflation rate had was higher than expected. "Monetary policy remains restrictive" The governor said that the reference interest rate could be reduced only if the fiscal policy were more restrictive and if the state did not give up the planned 13-percent increase of regulated prices for this year. Jelasic said that the January inflation rate measured by the consumer price index reached 2.2 percent, while that the annual inflation was 10.1 percent.
