Minister: Diaspora's huge financial potential

The Serb diaspora has a large financial potential, Minister for Diaspora Srdjan Sreckovic believes. For this reason, he told Tanjug in Belgrade on Sunday, Serbs living abroad should be encouraged to invest in the country. Minister: Diaspora's huge financial potential He added that last year saw USD 4.9bn of remittances, which is more than half of Serbia's total export in 2007. "That is why the state, unlike in the past decades, needs to make use of that potential and recognize the diaspora as a partner which can significantly contribute to the development of the country," the minister continued. Sreckovic pointed out that encouraged by the situation in Serbia, "which is entering a stage of reduced economic and political risk, our diaspora is expected to get much more involved in Serbia's economic life".
