A masjid – Muslim religious building – in the village of Gosevo in Sandzak burned down today. Police confirmed that an investigation has been wrapped up, but would not reveal any findings. Muslim religious structure burns down The Islamic Community in Serbia, headed by Muamer Zukorlic, is led in this Novi Pazar municipality by Ifet Alickovic. “When Alickovic visited the burned down building, he ran into Adem Zilkic surrounded by persons who are known to the public as participators in all incidents over the last ten months, especially those at the Altun-alem mosque and the ceremony for beginning the construction of the madrasah in Tutin,” Islamic Community in Serbia spokesperson Sead Sacirovic said. Zilkic is the leader of the rival Islamic Community of Serbia. He said that imam Alickovic was attacked by those who were in Zilkic’s company, and that the same people attacked a Glas Islama journalist, Rafik Sadikovic. “These events are another confirmation that this para-religious creations are not backing down from inciting incidents. We are expecting the authorities to carry out investigations with the goal of confirming the causes of the fires and the protection of its officials, property and members of the Islamic Community in Serbia,” Sacirovic said. President of the meshihat of the Islamic Community of Serbia, Hasib Suljevic, denied the accusations that members of this community were involved in the attacks or the burning down of the structure. Suljevic said that there were “verbal” conflicts between the two opposing factions, but that “there was no physical conflict between the imams of the two Islamic communities.” He said that the witnesses at the scene were investigators and police officials who were at the scene of the incident.
