The parliament will begin talks today regarding the Law on President and the election of a state president. There have been over 100 amendments proposed for these laws. Tadic eyes three terms in office? Officials of the Serb Radical Party (SRS) and Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) have stated that they will not support the proposed laws, and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) said that it would support the law only if its amendments are adopted. Public Administration and Local Self-Government Minister Milan Markovic (DS) told B92 that according to the law, President Boris Tadic will be able to be elected president for another two mandates because he was elected for his current one under the last constitution. Markovic said that there is still no agreement within the ruling coalition regarding an election model for the local administration and the election of municipal presidents and that is why three versions of the law have been prepared. “The Democratic Party (DS) is realistic, we cannot decided on that by ourselves, the coalition members must answer the question of what law we should go with. We will do what the coalition partners agree on, we are definitely not getting in the way, and have done everything we can." "We gave arguments of why it should be done this way, and if they do not agree, we will continue on this path. We have come to a situation where we are getting no answers, and that is a problem,” Markovic said. In order for the presidential elections to be announced, the parliament must adopt new laws by December 31. If it does not, the parliamentary speaker could announce elections according to the current laws.
