ZAGREB The mayor of the coastal town of Split in Croatia - who is also a member of the Croatian parliament - has blamed Serbs for all problems faced by his country. "Serbs are the cause of all problems in Croatia and that is the opinion of the whole country," Zeljko Kerum told Croatian state broadcaster HRT as he took part in a talk show on Sunday. Mayor: Serbs are cause of all Croatia's problems The mayor further explained that although a majority in Croatia was of this opinion - they never had an opportunity to express it, "because nobody asked them". "What I have said is my opinion, and the opinion of the entire state, it's just that most of the state never had an opportunity to be asked for their opinion about Serbs," Kerum noted, according to index.hr website. He also addressed the source of "all his problems" - to say that it was his statement "that Serbs should know their place", and that he would "never want to have a Serb son-in-law". Kerum also believes that Serbs have a controlling influence over the media and money in Croatia. "They (Serbs) are active in Europe, let alone in Croatia. Those are horrific positions, especially in the media," the mayor explained his view of the influence of Serbs. Finally, addressing his woes, Kerum stated: "I regret nothing, I worked honestly and diligently, I helped many people, although nobody ever helped me. That's how our people are, when you're on top everyone wants to be there with you, help you, when you're down, everyone walks out." Zeljko Kerum (file) Tanjug
