Republic of Srpska Prime Minister Milorad Dodik says that the entity is fighting to regain its powers that were transferred to the Bosnian state institutions. In an interview with daily Vecernje Novosti, Dodik said that the RS had not been weakened by International High Representative Valentin Inzko's decision to rescind the Banja Luka parliament’s declaration stating that the transfer of authorities from the RS to the state institutions was unconstitutional. Dodik: RS wants powers back “The RS lost nothing with these (Inzko’s) measures,” Dodik said, adding that the RS would “devise a response” in the coming days, and continue to demand its powers back. Dodik said that the RS parliament’s declaration had been designed “to return illegal actions of certain earlier bodies to a legal and Constitutional framework.” “No matter how many people ask why we are fighting for something they consider to be a done deal, I repeat: we shall not yield, because what has been done is not in accordance with the Constitution,” Dodik insisted. Asked whether the RS had Serbia’s support, as guaranteed by the Dayton Accords, Dodik said that he understood Serbia’s position and that it “is pursuing state-building policies that must be in accordance with formal conditions, such as Dayton and special relations.” The prime minister said that the RS made decisions on its own and that “there are no suggestions from Serbia.” “The RS administration has never been more independent of Serbia than now,” he said. Asked about Serbian President Boris Tadic’s visit to the RS, Dodik said that “Tadic did not come to calm us down or to work against Bosnia-Herzegovina.” “He helped us to set our priorities straight and to move towards them,” Dodik said, adding that he discerned “an increasing amount of arrogance from Sarajevo towards Serbia.” Milorad Dodik (FoNet, archive)
