Russian rescuers leave, but 2 helicopters remain in Serbia

The ministry's spokesman Aleksandr Drobyshevsky told Itar-Tass that the aircraft would remain in Serbia to help monitor the situation and deliver relief cargo to hard-to-reach settlements.

In the past several days, the helicopters were deployed to deliver nine tons of aid.

The Russian rescue team, numbering more than 70 people, helped evacuate about 3,000 people to safety, including 600 children, it has been announced.

At the same time, three Russian Ilyushin Il-76 airplanes airlifted over 105 tons of humanitarian aid to Serbia, while 40 tons were sent to the Serb Republic - the Serb entity of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
