Ruling Democratic Party (DS) presidential candidate Boris Tadic has no serious rival in the election, believes the party's deputy leader Bojan Pajtic. Opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic "who aspires to become president, lacks competent people in his team", asserted Pajtic. DS official: Tadic "has no rival", SNS ruled out as allies The president of Vojvodina's provincial government said that Nikolic, whose party tops public opinion polls ahead of the May 6 parliamentary, local and presidential votes, "today supports one idea, tomorrow something completely different; he is a man neither pro-European nor anti-European voters can trust". In an interview for the daily Vecerenje Novosti, Pajic added that the DS, on the other hand, "was the only party which could offer several candidates for prime minister who would do a good job, and noted it would be a person with political credibility and experience in public work". Pajtic said the DS would not enter a coalition with the SNS either at the provincial or the state level. "We will not discuss a post-election coalition with the SNS, the Serb Radical Party, or the Democratic Party of Serbia. Our potential partners are parties which are pro-European, like us," he was quoted as saying. As for ideas about making the northern province "a republic", heard from some groups, Pajtic said it had no support from the citizens who live there, who, according to him, are interested in living well rather than in "marketing-status issues", and asserted that "realizing a European quality of life" was the reason the Democrats were in favor of joining the EU.
