Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic has stated that he opposes the idea of a government reshuffle one year before regular elections. That would halt many projects, said the minister from the ranks of the Socialists (SPS), who was late last year mentioned in media reports as one of the cabinet members likely to be sacked. "No one in Serbia could do better job" Mrkonjic expressed belief that this government will complete its mandate. He said that he does not oppose government changes "at some point, but to do it one year before the elections is a disaster, as the realization of all projects would fail in the ministries whose heads would be replaced." Mrkonjic told the Palma Plus television from Jagodina, in central Serbia, that "a government reshuffle at this point would be absurd." "I do not know any people in Serbia who could do this job better than us," Mrkonjic said, adding that his resignation is not a "disputable issue". "As far as I am concerned, I could hand in my resignation immediately," said he. Milutin Mrkonjic (Beta, file)
