Radmila Trajkovic of the United Serb List has stated that the Serbian government should back Serbs in Kosovo who want to take part in the forthcoming elections. The voting has been scheduled for Dec. 12, and is organized by the Kosovo Albanian authorities. "Govt. should back K. Serbs in elections" Although the government in Belgrade has said that conditions did not exist for it to invite Serbs in the province to participate, Trajkovic said its support should come "because it would help Belgrade in the future talks with Pristina and will also help Serbia on its path of European integrations". “It is evident that Belgrade cannot be within the Kosovo institutions. Only Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija can do that, which, together with the preservation of the identity of Serbs in Kosovo and life organization, is one of the reasons we have drawn up the list for the elections,” clarified Trajkovic in a statement for a local television in the town of Jagodina. “It is certain that (ethnic) Albanians will not raise the issues and problems of the Serbs in the assembly. Serbs have to do that through the assembly and other institutions, using all mechanisms. That way we will achieve Belgrade's influence in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija,” said she. Trajkovic underscored that “Albanians know that the people included in the United Serb List do not accept Kosovo's independence, but we want to directly influence, through the assembly, the adoption of the law that would improve the life quality for the Serbs.” Trajkovic underlining that the United Serb List has 56 members, "who are responsible people and there are members of parliamentary and non-parliamentary parties in Serbia", and include "independent intellectuals".
