The Interior Ministry, MUP, has offered to provide Tomislav Nikolic with protection. Police also said they would check the threats that have been addressed to the former deputy leader of the Serb Radical Party (SRS) and his family. MUP offers protection to Nikolic After reports about the threats surfaced in several newspapers, some allegedly saying that he should “pay attention to what streets his children are crossing”, Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said that he called Nikolic, but that no specifics regarding MUP protection have been determined. “I did not call him so that I could brag about it, but to solve the problem. We agreed to remain in contact. He refused that earlier,” Dacic told B92 Radio today. Dacic also said that a report on the circumstances surrounding the death of SRS activist and member Ranko Panic, fatally injured during a July protest in Belgrade, has not been completed because Dacic himself has requested additional information. Continued work of parliament hinges on this report being submitted. Earlier, media said that medical examination said the victim died after receiving a blow to the stomach when policemen beat him. “We need to wait for the autopsy findings. There are a number of details there that we want to investigate. How come no one mentioned the way in which Panic was treated, and why he was tied to his bed when his wife visited him in hospital? Although he was hit, that was not a direct cause of the death, rather, he died two weeks later. In the findings it states that the cause was sepsis,” Dacic said. He also said that his Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) will sign a declaration on political reconciliation with Boris Tadic's Democratic Party (DS) "soon". That declaration states that the parties will have united goals in securing national interests, including the fight for Kosovo, entrance into the European Union and the fight against crime and social injustices, Dacic explained.

After reports about the threats surfaced in several newspapers, some allegedly saying that he should “pay attention to what streets his children are crossing”, Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said that he called Nikolić, but that no specifics regarding MUP protection have been determined.

“I did not call him so that I could brag about it, but to solve the problem. We agreed to remain in contact. He refused that earlier,” Dačić told B92 Radio today.

Dačić also said that a report on the circumstances surrounding the death of SRS activist and member Ranko Panić, fatally injured during a July protest in Belgrade, has not been completed because Dačić himself has requested additional information.
