Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, DSS, says that a cabinet meeting to discuss the energy agreement with Russia has been scheduled for Friday. “A regular cabinet meeting has been scheduled for May 9, instead of Thursday, in order to take a decision about confirming this very important energy agreement with Russia on Victory Day,” the prime minister told the Tanjug news agency. Democrats set to back Russian deal ratification Kostunica said that “the announcement that all ministers will be voting this time in favor of the deal is good, and is in the best interests of Serbia.” “The Serb Radical Party and Socialist Party of Serbia also support the confirmation of this agreement, so that all of Serbia’s parties will be happy on Victory Day because the energy agreement with Russia will finally be confirmed,” the prime minister concluded. Boris Tadic's Democrats (DS) reacted yesterday by saying that this time, after three refusals to support the move, their ministers in the caretaker cabinet were ready to vote in favor of sending the strategic energy agreement, signed in Moscow on Jan. 25, to parliament for ratification. But the deal will not be confirmed before the new parliament convenes. Parliamentary and local elections are scheduled for May 11.
