Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic today addressed a group of MPs from the European Parliament (EP). He spoke about Serbia and the resolution of the Kosovo status question before more than 250 MPs from the Party of European Socialists (PES) and the Liberal Party. Djelic addresses European Parliament MPs Djelic told the EP MPs that a unilateral recognition of Kosovo independence would contribute to increasing instability in the entire Western Balkan region. Stressing that it was of vital importance for Serbia to continue the process of European integration, Djelic expressed the belief that signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), with EU backing, was possible by the end of the year. PES MPs fully supported Serbia's European agenda and urged the speedy granting of candidate status to Serbia. On the subject of Kosovo’s status, EP MPs backed Serbia's constructive position, and agreed that talks were the best way to reach a solution, and rejected recognition of a potential unilateral declaration of independence as an option.
