SNS: Serbia needs serious actions, not marketing tricks
1 November 2009 | 14:04 | Source: Beta
BELGRADE -- The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) said that Serbia needs a serious fight against organized crime, not a marketing trick used by the government for promotion.

“SNS demands that government officials stop using the fight against organized crime to promote their parties and increase their ratings,” SNS official Marko Đurić said, regarding the Interior Ministry’s Morava action, in which over 500 people were arrested.

“Serbia needs a serious, organized and uncompromising fight against the organized crime which is seriously eating away at our society, not an ad hoc marketing move which will take the small fish off the streets for 48 hours or 30 days at most,” Đurić said.

Đurić said that SNS demands the arrest of the largest criminals which the drugs and organized crime come from in Serbia.

He said that the state must tell the citizens why only a few of several thousands of corruption cases have been processed thus far.

Đurić warned regarding the announcements that electricity prices would increase by 30 percent, that such price rises during an economic crisis would be a very great blow to the living standard of the citizens.

“SNS believes that the citizens should not suffer because of a group of tycoons that have the support of the government on speculations regarding electricity and want to earn millions while not investing a dinar into the construction of new capacities,” Đurić said.
