Yaroslav I think you are too kind in saying that 'for ideologial reasons couldn't be adopted as SRS policies' (although I agree with the rest of what you are saying).
It was quite simply the dictatorial nature of Vojislav Seselj that prevented the SRS party from moving forward. Nikolic was well liked and well respected by SRS functionaries and members alike. There was support for reform of party policy, but a small circle of Seseljites came down hard against. Seselj ordered for the 'black files' to be used against any SRS members who did not toe the line. Nikolic was not willing to fight and make a bloody ending (actually I think if he choose to fight his chances to 'win' would have been 50/50).
I know that come next election many SRS supporters will not only be angry but will bitterly regret not supporting Nikolic more vocally, rather than tying their mast to the skinking Seselj ship.? And more SRS supporters will decamp to SNS.
High Duke you parrot party propoganda without thinking to check the facts. I hope you are paid to do this, it would upset me to think you are being misled through lack of knowledge.
Besides, one can easily say that SRS stole Kosovo policy from SPS so does that make SRS the same party? - laying aside the fact that some say that SRS was in fact created by SPS controlled secret police to masqarade as an opposition party and to ride to the rescue by supporting the continued catasrophic government of Milosevic when necessary. BTW the same was true for New Democracy, which jumped ship to join DOS and controlled the police portfolios in government.
No, SRS has no firm ground to stand on when making accusations of this type.
For example you could easily say (and keep saying) that SNS will support a future DS government, which in your view is bad enough, but no, you have to claim they are exactly the same. Clearly they are not.
This is the problem with the radical mindset - everything is black and white. Well, the real world isn't quite like that.
