BELGRADE If a report of the European Commission (EC) in April is positive, then we can expect a positive decision on a date for the start of the EU accession talks. This is according to Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic. EU talks date “possible in June” He told FoNet that he had been told this in Brussels by High EU Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and European Council President Herman Van Rompuy. The prime minister added that U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Philip Reeker had said the same. According to Dacic, Reeker noted that the U.S. supported activities of the Serbian government and that it would give its contribution to Serbia’s European integration. The Serbian PM confirmed that he had discussed a date for the beginning of the EU accession talks with Ashton, adding he was sure that Serbia could get the date in June. “If the dialogue continues at this rate and if there are agreements that would go a step further in relaxation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, meaning overcoming of parallelism of institutions and establishing ways for the Community of Serb Municipalities to work, we can expect a positive outcome,” he explained. Dacic reiterated that another condition was continuation of internal reforms. “Progress in the dialogue is a key condition for a positive report of the EC,” he pointed out but added that Belgrade and Pristina were not expected to solve all issues and that Serbia was not asked to recognize Kosovo. “The talks are status neutral, we are looking for some sustainable solutions that will allow normal life in Kosovo,” he said. Dacic noted that he was satisfied with the support of the EU member states, China and Russia. “This is a proof that the Serbian government has led a serious and responsible policy,” he concluded.
