The EU considers the first visit of President Tomislav Nikolic to have been successful; his attention was drawn to the importance of regional reconciliation. Tanjug news agency said its reporters learned this from the European Commission on Thursday. Brussels satisfied with Nikolic's visit The talks were very good, an EU official stated who attended Nikolic's meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton today. I believe we covered all the important topics, he added. The same source, however, pointed out that Nikolic has been made clear that his recent statements on Vukovar (that Nikolic referred to as a Serbian city) and Srebrenica (where, according to Nikolic, no genocide happened) are unacceptable for the EU. We reminded him that the history of Europe is filled with bloody conflicts and intolerance, but that those have been overcome after it was decided that we should follow the path of reconciliation, Tanjug's source said. The EU official said that Nikolic was told that a similar process of reconciliation needs to be achieved in the Western Balkans so that the entire region would have a European perspective. Tanjug
