Erhard Buehler handed over command of the NATO-led KFOR forces to compatriot Erhard Drews. Allied Joint Force Command Naples Commander Admiral Sam J. Locklear also attended the ceremony held at the KFOR headquarters in Pristina. German general takes over KFOR command from compatriot Locklear said KFOR will continue to enable the development of democratic institutions in Kosovo. "We are working on bringing about the day NATO forces will not be needed in Kosovo. That day is nearing," Locklear said. He said Buehler responded "with superior results" and overcame the challenges during his one-year mandate as the head of KFOR. Welcoming the new KFOR commander, Locklear said he needs to use his sizable operational experience. "Our goal is maintaining the environment which offers EULEX and other international organizations security, needed to help the institutional development of Kosovo and to allow NATO's withdrawal," Locklear said. The ceremony was attended by Kosovo Albanian officials including Atifete Jahjaga and Hashim Thaci, and international officials Xavier Bout de Marnhac, Pieter Feith and others. Bishop of Ras-Prizren Teodosije also attended.
