President Boris Tadic thanked Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov for the support his country has been giving Serbia in its European integrations. Tadic thanked Bulgaria for the quick ratification of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between Serbia and the EU, adding that Bulgaria has been giving Serbia honest support on its road to the EU. President Tadic meets with Bulgarian PM “Bulgaria as an EU member-state, and Serbia plans on becoming one. We are thankful to Bulgaria for its ratification of the SAA and the essential and honest support of our path toward the EU,” Tadic said. Borisov said that Tadic represents “the European future of Serbia,” stressing that Bulgaria strongly supports Serbia’s European path and that all parties of the Bulgarian parliament supports the SAA ratification. Tadic also talked about Serbia’s great worries regarding the fact that KFOR has transferred its obligations of protecting Serbian churches and monasteries in Kosovo to the local police. Tadic said that the Serbian churches and monasteries are endangered in Kosovo and that the best solution would be for KFOR to continue protecting them. Tadic and Borisov talked about economic ties between the two countries, stating that cooperation in the Balkans is important. Tadic said that they talked about energy questions, the construction of road infrastructure, and cooperation in the field of tourism. They also talked about potential Serbian investments in the Belen nuclear power plant in Bulgaria. “Serbia has begun the conclusion of the Corridor 10 route from Nis to Dimitrovgrad and I expect that the entire route of the corridor that passes through Serbia would be completed by the beginning of 2012,” he said, adding that it is just as important for the Bulgarian economy. Borisov said that economic cooperation between the two countries is important, adding that Bulgaria is working on the construction of a highway from Sofia to Nis from the Bulgarian side of the border. He said that Sofia has signed an agreement for the South Stream pipeline gas arrangement as well. The joint battle against organized crime in the region was also discussed. “Serbia has had great success in the last two years in the fight against organized crime, but we must fight together, because crime knows no borders today,” Tadic said. Borisov was in Belgrade in late April, when an agreement was signed between the two governments for the founding and functioning of a joint contact center for police and customs cooperation.
