FM: Serbia will never recognize Kosovo

Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic told the BBC on Saturday that Serbia will never recognize Kosovo's independence. He also said that the issue of the province's future status and Serbia's bid to join the EU are two separate processes and that this is the official policy both in Belgrade and in Brussels. He repeated that Serbia is using only peaceful and legal means in order to solve the Kosovo problem, and reminded that the case of the declaration's legality is now at the International Court of Justice. Asked about Serbia's cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, Jeremic said that the government is doing everything to arrest the remaining two indictees – former Bosnian Serb military leader Ratko Mladic, and former Croatian Serb political leader Goran Hadzic. He also pointed out that "44 persons from Serbia" are in the tribunal's detention unit. The foreign minister said that Serbia is doing everything to locate, arrest and extradite the fugitives and close that chapter.
