The Hague has charged Florence Hartmann with contempt of court, reports from the UN war crimes tribunal say. The former chief prosecutor’s spokeswoman has been indicted for disclosing information from Slobodan Milosevic’s trial. Ex-Hague official in contempt of court The Tribunal announced today that the Trial Chamber had issued an Order in lieu of an indictment against Florence Hartmann on two counts of contempt of the Tribunal. Under the Order, Hartmann must appear before the court on September 15 to plea to two counts. The Trial Chamber has charged Hartmann with “knowingly and willfully disclosing information in knowing violation of an order of the Chamber.” The Order states that Hartmann is alleged to have written a text “published in 2007 and 2008” disclosing information relating to confidential decisions by the Tribunal’s Appeals Chamber in the case of Slobodan Milosevic. “Florence Hartmann knew that the information was confidential at the time disclosure was made, that the decisions from which the information was drawn were ordered to be filed confidentially, and that by her disclosure she was revealing confidential information to the public,”, the Order states. Hartmann was former Tribunal Prosecutor Carla del Ponte’s spokeswoman from 1999 until 2006.
