BELGRADE The Serbian authorities and a delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) embarked on talks about the latest economic developments in Serbia on Tuesday. They will also discuss the country's draft budget for 2013 with a plenary meeting at the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Tuesday. Talks with IMF on latest trends and 2013 budget The IMF mission, headed by Zuzana Murgasova, will stay in Belgrade until November 20. The mission will launch, but not conclude, talks about a possible program arrangement with the Fund, IMF Resident Representative for Serbia Bogdan Lissovolik has said. If adequate progress is made, the talks about the program will be continued during an IMF mission visit that will follow this one, he added. Serbian Minister of Finance and Economy Mladjan Dinkic said earlier that Serbia and the IMF delegation to Belgrade would discuss a medium-term structural reforms plan, adding that an IMF mission might arrive for negotiations on a possible new arrangement with Serbia at the end of January or beginning of February in 2013. “We will discuss the medium-term structural reforms plan, as it is important for Serbia to reduce its debt and implement this type of reform. Following the mission's visit, which is a preliminary one and will be relatively short, lasting for seven days, we expect a mission to arrive for talks about a possible new arrangement at the end of January or beginning of February,” said Dinkic. He previously stated for Tanjug that Serbia and the IMF had agreed that the consolidated budget deficit for 2013 could somewhat exceed the planned 3.6 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). Dinkic said that the increased consolidated budget deficit could result from an increase in expenditure for paying back past debts, rather than be caused by the amendments to the budget for the coming year, since it had been drafted well.
