Serbians have celebrated the New Year according to the Julian calendar used by the Serbian Orthodox Church, known also as the Serbian, or Orthodox New Year.

There were no organized open air celebrations, but many citizens spent the night in restaurants and clubs.4,000 people gathered in Jagodina where the town's assembly organized the celebrations, reports said. There were also organized events in Cuprija, Svilajnac, Despotovac, and Trstenik.
The new year was also celebrated in Kosovska Mitrovica, where Zeljko Joksimovic performed.
There was strong police presence in the town during the festivities, attended by Serb List President Slavko Simic, Deputy President of the Assembly of Kosovo Slobodan Petrovic, and other representatives of Serbs in Kosovo.
