Refugee petition delivered to CoE

Representatives of over 100 organizations of Serbs from Croatia delivered Wednesday a petition with 45,000 signatures to a Council of Europe (CE) official.

Representatives of over 100 organizations of Serbs from Croatia delivered Wednesday a petition with 45,000 signatures to a Council of Europe (CE) official. The petition was given to CoE Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General in Serbia Nadia Cuk demanding that Croatia reinstates their rights. Refugee petition delivered to CoE They also delivered a draft resolution on the rights of Serb refugees and Serbian citizens who lost their property in Croatia during and after the 90s conflict in that country. Both documents have already been given to the Serbian parliament and Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert. Leader of the Coalition of Refugee Associations in Serbia Miodrag Linta said the documents had also been sent to a number of other high-ranking CE officials. "We want the CoE to back our key demand, which is to start a dialogue with Croatia about a long-term and just solution to all the demands in the petition before Croatia signs the EU accession document," Linta stated. "We expect Dragoljub Micunovic, head of the Serbian delegation to the CE Parliamentary Assembly, to try to put our draft resolution on the assembly agenda so it could be adopted," Linta stressed. The refugee organizations want to collect 100,000 signatures so they could send a strong message to the UN, EU and other international organizations, as well as Croatian authorities, that they are not going to give up on their rights.

They also delivered a draft resolution on the rights of Serb refugees and Serbian citizens who lost their property in Croatia during and after the 90s conflict in that country.
