A 23-year-old Slovenian man was arrested on suspicion that he wrote computer malware that affected 12.7 million PCs running Windows. The botnet was named Mariposa ("butterfly" in Spanish). The virus was behind one of the world's largest botnets that was dismantled earlier this year. The malware acted to steal financial details from individual users and was also found in the PCs of banks and major companies, said the BBC. The virus also launched denial-of-service attacks against others. In December 2009, three people believed to have been running the botnet were arrested in Spain. Reports also said that the suspect was arrested in Maribor, Slovenia, some ten days ago, along with two others. The U.S. Federal of Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed the arrest today.
