According to the preliminary results of the local elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina, the SDA and the SNSD have won in the two entities. The considerably poor showing of the Serb Democratic Party (SDS) in the Republic of Srpska (RS) marks the new distribution of power in the Serb entity, and further positioning of the RS Prime Minister Milorad Dodik’s SNSD in the eastern parts. SNSD, SDA win in Bosnian local vote The Muslim-Croat Federation saw the success at the ballots of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA). This party, representing Bosnian Muslims, and the SNSD have thus emerged as the strongest parties in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The SDA will have 38 municipal chiefs in the Federation, with good chances of achieving the same in Gorazde and Srebrenica. Party’s leader Sulejman Tihic declared victory even before the press conference of the Central Electoral Committee last night. “This is a better result than the one we achieved at 2004 elections,” Tihic said. In the RS, these elections were in fact a showdown between the entity’s two major opponents – Union of the Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) and the Serb Democratic Party (SDS). Even though ahead of the voting the SNSD announced a more convincing victory, the party’s senior official Rajko Vasic said that these elections have marked "the final end of the SDS’ policy". “The SNSD won in 41 municipalities in Bosnia – three in the Federation, and the rest in the RS,” he said. Haris Silajdzic’s Party for Democratic Bosnia-Herzegovina is considered to be the biggest looser of the election, while the Croatian Democratic Party (HDZ) remained, as expected, the most dominant political subject among Bosnia's Croats.
