Parliament will continue working through the summer, and at least two more sessions will be held by the end of August, says Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic. “We will try to work with committees and public debates during the World Student Games. We will work in July. We will have at least two sessions by August,” she told journalists. Parliament to work through summer Djukic-Dejanovic said that she hoped that a parliamentary law would be passed during the summer and that a period of intensive public debate regarding this draft was about to begin. She said that the working group responsible for drawing up the draft law had almost finished its work, but that a debate, involving experts and public officials from various organizations, still needed to be held. “After much time, we are enacting the parliamentary law. I truly hope that we will adopt it during the summer, but the public debate must be intensive once the basic draft law is complete,” said Djukic-Dejanovic, adding that, under the constitution, the law was due to be adopted before the fall session. Asked about the Vojvodina Statute, she said that as far as she was aware, the government was finalizing the draft law on the transfer of Vojvodina’s authorities, and that the law and the Vojvodina statue draft would soon be on the agenda. “Until we get a law on the transfer of authorities in the Serbian parliament, we cannot do anything with the statute,” she said. The speaker said that most of parliament’s working bodies would continue to convene during the summer in order to prepare for parliamentary work in September.
