Minister urges partnership with Diaspora

“The Ministry for Diaspora has been established to serve all the Serbian citizens residing abroad, regardless of their national, religious and political origin,” she said.

Čubrilo added that one of the ministry’s goals was to regain the trust of the Diaspora in state institutions in order to promote economic, cultural, sports and other forms of cooperation between the Diaspora and the mother land.
“The Diaspora should be offered partnership based on Serbia’s interest to incorporate it into the development of the state,” she said.

Serbian Ambassador to Spain Trivo Inđić, speaking on behalf of President Boris Tadić, said the issue of emigrants was assigned high priority during the president’s meetings with foreign officials, particularly in the region.

“In these meetings the president insisted on protecting human and civic rights of our people abroad,” Inđić stressed, adding that Serbia needed new policy towards the Diaspora, “without any manipulations, schisms and divisions that existed in the past.”

Minister of Trade Predrag Bubalo addressed the gathering on prime minister’s behalf and said that “a cabinet of continuity” was formed in Serbia.

He mentioned the results the Serbian economy achieved last year that indicated Serbia was moving forward.

“Our people in the Diaspora recognized and acknowledged that,” Bubalo said.
