The 150 kilometer-long gas interconnection between Bulgaria and Serbia is to be completed by 2018 so that gas could start flowing in 2019.

Gas interconnection with Bulgaria by 2018

Antic said after the signing of the protocol with Bulgarian Minister of Economy Bozidar Lukarski that 60 percent of the gas interconnection stretches over Serbia's territory.

“This is a two-way gas connection with an annual capacity of 1.8 billion cubic meters that can be expanded further,” Antic said after a plenary session of the second session of the joint Serbian-Bulgarian intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation.

Bulgaria has defined financing of the project with the EU, and Serbia will endeavor to allocate finances also from the EU funds.

The protocol signed on Tuesday sums up the results of the work carried out over the past two days in a number of key areas - trade, investment, economy, energy, agriculture, environment, information technologies, tourism and regional and cross-border cooperation.

"This is a comprehensive document that will considerably improve our relations," said Antic, pointing to the two countries' close friendship and political cooperation at the highest level.
