Outgoing Finance Minister Mirko Cvetkovic says that although the revenues are steady, the state budget could report a liquidity deficit come September. One way to avoid this, Cvetkovic told Vecerenje Novosti daily in an interview, is to make sure "a major privatization" takes place. "Budget could be headed for liquidity deficit" The sale of the state oil monopoly, NIS, might be one such privatization, he continued, that would prevent the deficit. Cvetkovic also added the budget revenues from privatizations were below the expected figure. "During the whole of 2007 we did not have privatizations and our main reserves come from the sale of Mobtel," he added, in reference to the 2006 Norwegian Telenor's acquisition of one of Serbia's mobile operators. At this point, the revenues are on the expected level and expenditure is within the planned framework, the minister told the daily, confirming that the state will meet its budget obligations regularly.
