BELGRADE Croatian President Ivo Josipovic told B92 in an exclusive interview that a meeting with his Serbian counterpart "would still not serve a purpose". Josipovic also confirmed that in Croatia, there was no final court ruling in any of the cases concerning crimes committed during and after Operation Storm, and that Croatia has yet to begin to address these crimes - "as soon as it obtained evidence from the Hague Tribunal". Croat leader on meeting with Serb counterpart The war crimes in question concern expulsion of hundreds of thousands and murder or disappearance of thousands of ethnic Serbs during the 1995 attacks on their areas. The Hague's acquittal on appeal of former Croatian generals Gotovina and Markac "does not diminish the need for Croatia to process war criminals", Josipovic stated. Asked about a possible meeting with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, he responded: "President Nikolic in this case, who was legitimately elected and whom we respect and appreciate in Croatia as the elected president of Serbia, has indicated some stances because of which it is difficult to expect that this symbolic function would be achieved in Croatia, and in Serbia. The question is whether our meeting would produce a level of political consensus that is needed to fulfill its function. " However, recent statements by Prime Minister Ivica Dacic - says Josipovic - represented "a good sign of improving relations between the two countries". "Today I read an encouraging statement by Prime Minister Dacic. I think it is clear to everyone that both Croatia and Serbia find good relations to be of essential importance," Josipovic said.
