BELGRADE There is no reason for Croatian President Ivo Josipovic to be afraid that we will not live up to the responsibility given to us, Serbian FM Vuk Jeremic says. Commenting on Josipovic’s statement that his statement that Kosovo could only join the UN over his dead body was “inappropriate” and that he “should separate the roles he had as a UN General Assembly president and as a Serbian FM, Jeremic said that the Croatian president had no reason to worry but that he understood his concern. Jeremic: Croatian president has no reason for concern “Of course, I do not doubt that Ivo Josipovic had the best intentions and that he is looking forward to Serbia’s presidency over the UN General Assembly,” he underscored. “There is no reason for him to be afraid that we will not live up the responsibility entrusted to us by the majority of votes of the human kind and that we will not preside in a completely fair manner and with strict respect of the UN Charter and all other rules of the most important international organization. They, among other things, define procedures for the membership pretty clearly and I am afraid that they are not particularly favorable for secessionist territories such as Kosovo and Metohija,” the Serbian official told Tanjug. After his meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the Croatian president said that Serbian Jeremic's statement that Kosovo could only enter the UN over his dead body had been “expected” but perhaps “inappropriate”.
