IJAS names new president The priority in the near future will be strengthening the profession in the society and working as partners with the government in reforming the media related legislation, Vlajic said. “I believe that journalism is endangered in many ways in Serbia because of political pressure, economic pressure, and unresolved ownership relations in the media sphere. Also, I believe that there will have to be a lot of work put into strengthening the position of journalists in the companies in which they work, to find a better way to have strong contractual relations between employers and journalists. It would be ideal to make a collective agreement like we have in other professions,” Vlajic said. Outgoing President Nadezda Gace said that the decision to initiate the question of responsibility in journalism in the war propaganda of the 1990s was the most important aspect of her mandate.
