Opposition New Serbia (NS) officials say an announced probe into leader Velimir Ilic's comments in parliament represent "continued manhunt" against him. On Saturday, the state prosecutor requested the video tapes in order to determine whether any of the statements made by Ilic constitute a criminal offense. New Serbia: Manhunt continues But Ilic was hospitalized on Friday with high blood pressure. He remains at the Emergency Center, where his condition is stable, deputy NS leader Dubravka Filipovski said today. She also commented on the news that a probe might be in the works by saying it is "well known" that an MP cannot be held responsible for what he utters in parliament. The controversy started on Thursday, when Ilic criticized a government decision to have Labor Minister Rasim Ljajic sign invitations for Statehood Day ceremonies. "You are going to visit Karadjordje in Orasac, and Rasim Ljajic is sending out the invitations, he's my mate, kudos to him, but that is an insult to the dignity of this state, to Karadjordje, an insult to all that is Serb," he was quoted as saying. This was described as hate speech in the media, by some political parties, and was condemned by the government. Ilic however denied that he was referring to Ljajic's ethnic or religious background, but that he was pointing out that the invitations should have been sent by either the president or the prime minister, instead of a cabinet minister. Ljajic yesterday visited Ilic in hospital, saying that he wished to leave the incident behind.
