EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn pointed out that Serbia could unilaterally implement the Interim Trade Agreement. The deal, a part of the SAA and still frozen, could be realized in four areas, relating to competition, state assistance, intellectual ownership protection and transit traffic, Rehn told Tanjug in an interview in Brussels on Thursday. Rehn: Four areas for unilateral implementation The EU commissioner added that in those areas Serbia could further harmonize its laws with the requirements of the Interim Agreement. He pointed out that such efforts would strengthen competition in the Serbian market, and bring about lower prices for consumers and thus be beneficial to Serbia's citizens. "The beginning of the implementation of the Interim Agreement would have a very important political significance, because if Serbia begins to implement that agreement today or tomorrow, it will help her create a convincing proof of the implementation of the agreement, which would one day, when Serbia's EU candidate status becomes actual, provide basis for an assessment," Rehn pointed out. According to his words, this means that with the implementation of the Interim Agreement Serbia by itself may speed up its European future, "which is our common goal".
