Charges against Netherlands and UN

According to Reuters, the lawyers that represent about 6,000 family members of massacre victims in Srebrenica announced that the charges will be filed today against the Netherlands and the UN, who they believe to be partially guilty for the genocide which took place in that town.

During the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995, Srebrenica was deemed a protected zone and was guarded by a unit of the Dutch military under the international UN forces in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

“Shortly before the fall of the protected zone, only Holland blocked support from the air,” the charges state.

The Netherlands stated from the beginning that the UN left its soldiers stranded without help. However, in public documentaries it is stated that Dutch officials, in accordance with the international UN forces, blocked the air support fearing that their soldiers could get caught in “friendly fire.”
