Democratic Party (DS) leader Boris Tadic said in Backa Topola on Sunday that it was of utmost importance for residents of Vojvodina to live together in harmony. He added that all of them needed to preserve their own identities. Vojvodina must stay united, Tadic says “I am sure that people in these parts will protect our Vojvodina in order to secure the best possible life for their children, regardless of whether they are Rusyns, Hungarians, Croats or Serbs… It is of essential importance to protect the joint life and every individual’s identity,” Tadic stressed. According to him, Vojvodina is a unique region in Europe, with various cultures, languages and identities and it represents an idea of a joint future. “This is a region which is specific in the European sense and which represents wealth not only for Serbia but for the entire continent. Whenever we go to Brussels or to European states we are proud of Vojvodina and its uniqueness,” he pointed out. Vojvodina Executive Council Chairman and DS official Bojan Pajtic repeated that Vojvodina is the only region in Europe that had six official languages and so many nationalities and religions but that the people were still able to celebrate their holidays together, despite all the differences. “This is the case with Backa Topola, where Hungarians, Serbs, Slovaks and Rusyns celebrate holidays together,” he said. “This is the atmosphere we want to create in the entire Vojvodina. The atmosphere in which people are going to live together, not next to each other,” he added. Boris Tadic is seen in Backa Topola (Tanjug) Tanjug
