Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic said Wednesday that if he assumed power, he would call a referendum on Kosovo. "If SNS is to set up the government, it will sit at one table with representatives of the opposition and define a proposal for Kosovo and present it to the citizens to vote on it," Nikolic told Telegraf.rs portal. SNS leader would call referendum on Kosovo He reiterated the need that representatives of all political parties in the country reach consensus on the Kosovo issue. Commenting on the claims by some that what is vital is the actual state of affairs, Nikolic said that the question was whether we should accept that situation. "Is occupation and rape an actual or an unhealthy situation? Is all that in line with (UN SC) Resolution 1244? Why do not we insist that 1,000 policemen and soldiers return (to Kosovo) to protect the Serbian cultural heritage?" he wondered. "We will never recognize Kosovo and Metohija. Never," Nikolic underlined, claiming that it would not be done even at the expense of EU membership. “It is necessary to present a solution to the citizens and see whether or not they will accept it,” the SNS leader stressed, adding that changes in the Constitution were also a possibility. "We should discuss all options. For the time being, the (Serbian) president has to treat Kosovo and Metohija as a part of Serbia, as the Constitution obliges him to act that way," said Nikolic.
