The withdrawal of the draft declaration on Kosovo is the first big success of the Liberal Democratic Party's latest campaign, LDP leader Cedomir Jovanovic says. Jovanovic said the draft document was “the most direct threat to a European Serbia, as it could have pushed us in a new clash with Brussels, bringing about loss of candidacy.” LDP: Declaration withdrawal first big success To give up on the document is not enough in itself, as the government is still manipulating people by chanting “both Europe and Kosovo," while at the same fostering in hiding its old rhetoric and a new arrangement with Pristina, Jovanovic said for Wednesday's edition of Blic, a Belgrade-based daily. “When we mention Ahtisaari's plan, the government accuses us of treason. On the other hand, far from the public eye, the very same government is accepting the authority given to Pristina by the Ahtisaari plan, at the same time leaving the Serbs behind roadblocks void of the rights they could have enjoyed if they had listened to us instead,” the LDP leader said. Jovanovic said the situation in the country was very fragile, as there was a possibility Serbia might not even get the EU membership candidacy status. The candidacy in itself would not mean much to Serbia, which spent a lot of time for nothing, pursuing a policy that showed little responsibility on the part of the government, Jovanovic said, adding that Serbia “cannot wait any longer, as we are now struggling our way through a minefield, planted by local enemies of the European Serbia, trying to pave our way to Europe.” “It is a paradox that the job has to be done by us, instead of the government, which reached power thanks to their pro-European slogans,” the LDP leader said.
