The Law on Restitution has still not been prepared, Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti writes today. This legislation is among those of key importance in fulfilling obligations which Serbia has taken on in agreement with the European Union. Restitution law "not ready, will be inapplicable" The law concerns the citizens or their heirs whose property was nationalized by the post-WW2 communist Yugoslav regime. The newspaper, however, writes on Monday that the law "will be practically inapplicable since its implementation will be postponed indefinitely". The government will “soon” submit its draft to parliament - "but this will not be of any great use seeing that even once it has been passed it will not be applicable". The article notes that Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic–Dejanovic had also stated recently that the implementation of this law would be possible only once the country became “financially stabilized”. According to the government’s Action Plan for fulfilling recommendations of the European Commission this, as well as some other laws, had to be passed by the middle of the year.
