G17 Plus, whose official held the position of NBS governor so far, looks likely to let the Democrats (DS) pick the next central bank chief. This speculation comes in the wake of Radovan Jelasic's resignation last week. Daily: Democrats to pick new NBS chief Belgrade daily Danas writes that that despite announcing it initially, G17 Plus is yet to formally talk about their proposal. The newspaper continues that "if it is certain" that DS will pick the new governor, it would most likely be President of Board of Directors of Societe Generale Bank in Serbia Goran Pitic. It is also speculated that World Bank economist Dusan Vujovic could be his competition. The daily’s source from G17 Plus said that the party would decide after analyzing the proposed candidate whether to support him or whether it would be necessary to find a new person. Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic has recently announced that the candidate's name could be known by the end of the week. As many as ten names were mentioned as media speculated on the likely successor to Jelasic, including current Finance Minister Diana Dragutinovic.
